English That Moves Beyond the Classroom

Children do not spend October Camp sitting through traditional English lessons. They use English to complete missions, solve problems, make decisions, create projects and present their ideas.

Every activity gives English a purpose. Children need to listen, speak, question, explain and work with others to move forward. This makes learning more natural, memorable and enjoyable.

FEATURE POINTS

  • English used in practical situations
  • Active missions and team challenges
  • Creative projects with a clear outcome
  • Speaking and listening throughout the day
  • Confidence built through repeated use

Life Does Not Happen in a Classroom

Life does not happen in a classroom, and neither does learning at iCamp.

Children learn in real situations that have been made energetic, active and fun. They may need to ask for directions, negotiate with a team, solve an emergency, design a product, interview other campers or present an idea. English becomes something they use to achieve a goal, not something they only study on a page.

The result is a camp where children are thinking, moving, speaking and discovering throughout the day. Even confident English speakers stay involved because the challenge comes from what they must do with the language.

One Camp Two Equal Experiences

October Camp is both an English camp and an activity camp. Half of the programme is dedicated to Active English Learning™. The other half delivers the adventure, creativity and energy of iCamp activities.

English continues throughout both halves of the day. Campers listen, speak, collaborate and solve problems during activities, meals, cabin life and evening programmes, creating a genuinely immersive English environment.

50% Active English Learning™

50% iCamp Activities Immersive English Throughout
Energetic English missions and projects matched to each camper’s Cambridge level. Educational, practical and never a boring classroom lesson. Age appropriate adventure, sport, creative and team activities, with separate groups for younger and older campers English remains the shared language during activities, meals, cabin life and evening programmes, making the entire camp educational and fun.

A Full Camp Experience Every Afternoon

When the morning English programme finishes, the iCamp experience continues with active, social and creative sessions. Campers are divided into younger and older groups so the level of challenge, pace and activity choice are appropriate for their age.

The programme is designed to feel varied. Campers can cool off in the swimming pool, race across the inflatable obstacle course, take on water games, test themselves on the iCamp obstacle course, compete in Gaga Ball or iCamp Olympics, navigate an orienteering challenge, create a tie dye shirt and work together through Amazing Race challenges.

Put Down the Phone and Step Into Camp

Mobile phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches and gaming devices are handed to the Camp Leader at registration and kept safely during camp. Children can give their full attention to the people, activities and experiences around them.

Instead of watching someone else have an adventure, campers are living one. They talk face to face, solve problems together, spend time outdoors and create memories with new friends.

The Right Challenge for Every Learner

Campers take part in English activities designed around Cambridge levels A1, A2, B1 and B2. A fun language assessment on arrival helps us place each child at the most suitable level.

Level  Learning Focus  What Campers Practise
A1 Build confidence Simple questions, familiar vocabulary, listening and everyday communication.
A2 Communicate more Descriptions, directions, planning, opinions and practical conversations.
A3 Think and collaborate Discussion, problem solving, presenting ideas and independent communication.
A4 Lead and influence Negotiation, analysis, persuasion, leadership and detailed presentations.

The aim is to make every camper feel confident enough to participate while giving them enough challenge to keep progressing.

Use English to Complete the Mission

October Camp includes a deliberate mix of short missions and larger projects. Missions create fast, purposeful communication. Projects give campers time to investigate, design, negotiate, create and present.

EXAMPLE MISSIONS

  • Treasure hunts and secret agent challenges
  • Navigation and lost tourist rescues
  • Health emergency and restaurant challenges
  • Survival decisions and problem solving races

EXAMPLE PROJECTS

  • Future city design
  • Trade show and product pitches
  • Rescue agency simulations
  • Creative presentations and performances

Activities vary by level and session, so returning campers can experience different challenges.
